More info

Chikoo also called pile-apple.

The Chikoo tree (Manilkara zapota), also called sapote, chewing gum or sapotilla tree, is a plant species from the family of the Sapotaceae (Sapotaceae).

The Chikoo tree is a slow-growing, long-lived, evergreen tree, which reaches heights of usually 12 to 18 m, but rarely also up to 40 m and trunk diameter of 2 to 3.5 m. It carries a lot of white milk juice. The decorative, simple foliage leaves stand alternately in groups at the tops of the branches. The leaves have a length of 0.8 to 3 cm. The elliptical or elongated-elliptical to slightly inverted egg-shaped or inversely lancet blade blade has a length of 4 to 15 cm and a width of 1.5 to 6 cm. Both leaves are nearly the same color, and at least unaffected in old age. On the underside, the veining is usually clearly visible.

The roots extend just below the earth's surface, with about 80% of the roots being at a depth of less than 75 cm. Approximately 66% of the moisture absorbed by the plant is absorbed in this area.
